St. John Beaches

All the beaches in the Virgin Islands are open to the public, and here are a few of the most popular.

North Shore Beaches

Caneel Bay: Located closest to Cruz Bay on the north shore, the beach is accessible through the Cancel Bay Resort. White sands, calm waters and full facilities at the resort. Location: North shore near Cruz Bay .

Hawks Nest Bay: Beautiful north shore beach close to Cruz Bay . Parking is also close so there is no long walk to the water. Smaller than neighboring Trunk Bay. Changing facilities, shelters and picnic tables are available. Location: North shore, less than 2 miles from Cruz Bay .

Trunk Bay: The most popular (and sometimes crowded) beach among visitors. Underwater snorkeling trail, rental gear, shop, snack bar, changing facilities and lifeguard. The only beach on the island with an entrance fee. Location: North shore, a few miles from Cruz Bay .

Cinnamon Bay: The National Park campground beach with good snorkeling, water-sports rentals, a restaurant and a store, and views of the nearby islands. Location: North shore, a few miles from Cruz Bay .

Honeymoon Bay: Honeymoon is a small, quiet and usually un-crowded beach that is not accessible by car. No facilitates. Location: North shore. Access the beach via the Lind Point Hiking Trail that connects Cruz Bay to Honeymoon and Caneel Bay .

Maho Bay Beach: A shallow and calm beach right off the road. Part of the National Park campground. No facilities. Location: North shore, about 5 miles from Cruz Bay .

Francis Bay: One of the longest beaches on St. John , calm water and sandy shore. Use the water sport facilities at Maho Bay Campground. No facilities except portable toilet. Location: North shore, take Route 20 from Cruz Bay toward Maho Bay , go about 1 ½ miles to an intersection near Leinster Bay and turn left.

Jumbie Bay: Small sandy and rocky beach easily missed from the road, but it does not require a long hike to the water. No facilities. Location: North shore, east on the North Shore Road 2.5 miles from Cruz Bay . Park on the right side, cross road and take stairs down to a short trail leading to the beach.

Denis Bay: A lovely and un-crowded beach accessible only by the rugged Peace Trail or by boat. No facilities. Location: North shore and part of the National Park. The property behind the tree line at the beach is private.

Leinster Bay: A lovely sandy and rocky shore with good snorkeling. No facilitates except pit toilets. Location: North shore,

South Shore Beaches

Salt Pond Bay: A beautiful bay with amazingly clear water, usually un-crowded because it is farther away from Cruz Bay . Requires a 10 minute hike down hill from parking lot. Good snorkeling, no facilities except a portable toilet. Location: South shore.

Little Lameshur and Great Lameshur Bays: Little Lameshur is a protected sand and rubble beach separated from Great Lameshur by Yawzi Point. The bays are offer scenic shorelines and good snorkeling. Un-crowded due to the long drive to get there. No facilities except portable toilets. Location: South shore.
