Tortola rental villas provide a relaxing environment and Tortolla is one of those must see Caribbean islands. Although Tortola is only a 45 minute ferry ride from St. Thomas (or a 20 minute flight from San Juan ) visiting here is like a step back in time to the old Caribbean. It's a slower pace, a friendly smile, and goats and donkeys in the road. But don't let that fool you, Tortola has all the charm of an island retreat and all the modern conveniences you're looking for in a Tortolla rental villa.
Tortola is the largest of approximately 50 islands and cays that make up the British Virgin Islands. Centrally located Road Town is the hub of activity where visitors arrive daily by cruise ship, yachts, or by ferry from the U.S. Virgin Islands to sample some Carib-British flair. Here's where you'll find shopping, restaurants and the home base for many of the water sport activities available while staying in one of the Tortola villas.
Head to one of the British Virgin Island National Parks if you're looking for some natural adventure. These pristine enclaves on Tortola range from a primeval rain forest, to a mountain ridge with views of farms, settlements and churches, to wild rock outcroppings and dry steam valleys. Tortola's topography is amazingly diverse! Beaches to explore include the mile-long Long Bay Beach, lively Cane Garden Bay Beach (an old favorite of Jimmy Buffet!), the surfer's delight of Apple Bay Beach, or serene and calm Smugglers Cove and Brewers Bay. For something different, try out Elizabeth Beach on the east end of the island. It's one of the widest beaches on Tortola and gives sun bathers plenty of space to relax and enjoy the view.
If you're lucky enough to be on island during the full moon, head to Bomba's Surfside Shack in Apple Bay after dark. After more than 20 years, Bomba is still holding the legendary monthly fete, and you won't want to miss it. Apple Bay is also host to weekly Friday night fish fries put on by local residents. In Cane Garden Bay, Quito 's is the spot most evenings for food, drink, live music and dancing by the sea. Soper's Hole on Tortola's West End is also a great place to find shops, restaurants, and fun-filled local watering holes like the iconic Pussers Landing.

Roads on the island are steep, but the main roads are paved and in good condition. Side roads leading to many of the finest rental villas on the island are unpaved and rough, so renting a 4-wheel drive vehicle on Tortola is highly recommended, and actually required at some of the villas.
